How Do Websites Detect Disposable Email Addresses?

Detection is usually classification, not proof
Websites can identify likely disposable addresses through known-domain lists, provider intelligence, mail-routing signals and their own account-abuse rules. No single signal perfectly describes every address or every future domain.
Known-domain lists are the simplest signal
A site can compare the address domain against a maintained list of services it considers disposable. This is fast, but lists become stale and may disagree about newer or less common domains.
Mail infrastructure adds more clues
Validators may inspect DNS, MX patterns, catch-all behavior or third-party reputation data. Those signals can strengthen a classification, but they still need interpretation.
The website owns the final policy
Two websites can see the same address and make different decisions because they have different abuse risks, recovery requirements and tolerance for false positives.
Why acceptance varies
Disposable-email detection combines signals with a website’s own policy. A rejection is not the same thing as proving the domain cannot receive mail.
