How Does Temporary Email Work Technically?
Trace a message from DNS lookup and SMTP delivery to recipient routing and the browser inbox.
The system is a chain
A temporary inbox still uses ordinary email infrastructure. DNS points senders toward a receiving mail server, SMTP carries the message, the receiving service decides whether the recipient is valid, and the web application maps accepted mail to the active inbox.
DNS answers where mail should go
The sender looks up the recipient domain before delivery. MX records identify the mail hosts that are prepared to receive messages for that domain.
SMTP moves the message between systems
The sending server connects to a receiving server and presents the sender, recipient and message. Acceptance at this layer means the receiving system took responsibility for further handling; it does not mean the user has already seen the message.
The application maps mail to an inbox
After acceptance, the service still has product work to do: associate the recipient with the right temporary address, process the message safely, store what the product needs, and notify the active browser.
