How Does Temporary Email Receive Messages?

A temporary inbox can show a message only after the sender has actually sent it and the email route has reached MailOnce. MailOnce then matches the accepted message to the active temporary address and surfaces it in that inbox.
The website sends first
Pasting a MailOnce address into a form does not create the email by itself. The website still has to generate the message and hand it to its mail provider.
That is why a short wait can begin before MailOnce has received anything at all.
MailOnce receives the message for the exact address
When the message reaches MailOnce, it is processed for the temporary address that was used on the sender side. The active inbox linked to that address becomes the place where the message appears.
If the address was typed incorrectly, the receiving inbox cannot redirect a message that was sent somewhere else.
The inbox then updates
