Should You Use Your Real Email for Forums and Communities?
Forums often need long-term recovery but rarely need your primary identity inbox, making a durable secondary address a strong default for most communities.
A forum account can start as a five-minute question and still matter years later when someone replies, you return to old posts or need to reset a password. That makes it more durable than many people expect at signup.
Use continuity if you may return
Saved posts, reputation, direct messages and old discussions can give the account lasting value. A permanent secondary inbox preserves that access.
Keep community mail away from critical recovery if you want separation
Forums can generate notifications, digests and promotional mail. A separate durable inbox contains that traffic without making the account disposable.
Temporary email fits throwaway participation only
If you truly do not care about future replies or account recovery, a temporary inbox may work where the site's rules allow it. Be certain that the conversation is actually disposable.
Do not confuse email separation with anonymity
A community may still observe usernames, posts, IP-related signals or other account data. A separate email limits one identifier; it does not erase the rest of your footprint.
For most communities you plan to revisit, durable separation beats disposability.
